The result? A resounding 62-43 victory and the historic first boys’ basketball championship for West Central, Winchester, or Bluffs, celebrated joyously by hundreds of students and fans in attendance.

Right from the start, West Central took control, surging to an 8-0 lead with a layup from Zack Evans, followed by three-pointers from Mason Berry and a crafty play by Little, who cleverly drew in a defender with a ball fake before sinking his shot. Meanwhile, Mounds Meridian struggled to find their rhythm, only managing to score at the 4:26 mark of the first quarter.

Continuing their dominance into the second quarter, West Central capitalized on their opponents’ weaknesses, executing plays flawlessly and maintaining a comfortable lead. Despite Mounds Meridian’s full-court press, West Central remained composed and focused, attacking their press and turning it into scoring opportunities.

Evans, determined to make an impact after a quiet semifinal, rose to the occasion, delivering a stellar performance with 27 points and 13 rebounds, earning him the game’s MVP honors. His leadership and resilience were crucial in guiding West Central to victory.

Credit was also due to the coaching staff, whose meticulous preparation and strategic insights paved the way for success. Through hours of film study and scouting reports, they equipped the team with the tools needed to overcome any challenge.

Ultimately, it was a team effort that propelled West Central to their historic triumph. From executing game plans to outmaneuvering their opponents on both ends of the court, every player contributed to the victory.

With an impressive season record of 36-3 and victories in multiple tournaments, including the prestigious State Final Tournament, West Central’s championship win stands as a testament to their talent, determination, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
