While the ceremony honored the memory of actors, filmmakers, and industry icons who passed away in the past year, a few names were conspicuously absent from the main segment. Instead, they were grouped together on a collective slide at the conclusion of the tribute.

Among those omitted were actors Lance Reddick, Treat Williams, Ron Cephas Jones, and Suzanne Somers, alongside legendary screenwriter and producer Norman Lear, and British filmmaker Terence Davies.

Reddick, renowned for his roles in “The Wire” and “Bosch,” passed away on March 17, 2023, just before the release of “John Wick: Chapter 4.” Williams, known for his work in “Hair” and “Everwood,” tragically died in a motorcycle accident on June 12, 2023. Somers, celebrated for her roles in “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” succumbed to breast cancer in October 2023.

Following the Oscars, Somers’ husband Alan Hamel expressed understanding for the Academy’s decision, stating, “I respect the Academy’s decision to not include Suzanne In Memoriam.” He emphasized Somers’ profound impact on her fans and the media throughout her illustrious career.

The In Memoriam segment, set to a poignant rendition of “Time to Say Goodbye” by Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo Bocelli, honored icons like Matthew Perry, Chita Rivera, Ryan O’Neal, and Tina Turner, alongside other luminaries such as Paul Reubens, Alan Arkin, and Tony Bennett.

Despite the oversight, the segment served as a poignant reminder of the enduring legacies left behind by these remarkable individuals.
