Lainey Wilson treated the audience to a performance of “Country’s Cool Again,” her latest single released on Friday, marking her first new release since her 2022 album, Bell Bottom Country, which snagged the Best Country Album award at the recent Grammy Awards. This year, she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Female Country Artist of the Year, with the latter title secured shortly after her performance.
Accompanied by her band against a rustic backdrop, Wilson blended her new track with “Things a Man Oughta Know,” “Heart Like a Truck,” and “Watermelon Moonshine.”
“‘Country’s Cool Again’ is an homage to my roots and the narrative of my journey in this industry – from where I started to where I am now,” Wilson expressed in a previous statement about the song. “I’m overwhelmed by the love from Country music fans, and I can’t wait to hear everyone singing this song back to me while we’re on tour this year.”
The song’s sentiment rings true, with pop icons like Beyoncé, whose “Texas Hold ‘Em” recently landed on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and Lana Del Rey embracing their love for country music.
Wilson was among the performers of the night, joining the likes of Kylie Minogue and Lenny Kravitz, during the Sunday evening event. Held this year at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and hosted by Simu Liu (who is nominated for Movie Performance of the Year for his role as one of the Kens in Barbie), the annual People’s Choice Awards celebrate excellence in film, TV, music, and pop culture, with winners determined by votes from the public.
