The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards will air live on BBC One and will be available for streaming on iPlayer and BritBox on Sunday night, beginning at 7 p.m. local time.
BritBox recently secured a deal with BAFTA to stream a simulcast of the BAFTA Film Awards until 2025. Hosted by David Tennant, this year’s ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.
Leading the nominations is “Oppenheimer” with 13 nominations, followed closely by “Poor Things” with 11 nominations. “Oppenheimer” received nods for best film, director (Christopher Nolan), and lead a
ctor (Cillian Murphy), as well as supporting nominations for Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. “Poor Things” also earned a nomination for best film and lead actress (Emma Stone).
Notable omissions include “Barbie,” which failed to secure nominations in the best film or director categories despite its box office success. The film received five nominations, tying with “Saltburn” from Emerald Fennell, who also missed out on a directing nomination, after being listed in 15 categories during the longlist phase. Additionally, Golden Globe winner Lily Gladstone was overlooked for a best actress nomination, as was Martin Scorsese for best director for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” “American Fiction,” a five-time Oscar nominee, only received one nomination for adapted screenplay.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Zone of Interest” both received nine nominations, while “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” and “Maestro” each earned seven nominations. “All of Us Strangers” followed closely behind with six nods.
The ceremony will also feature a performance by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose song “Murder on the Dancefloor,” released 23 years ago, was prominently featured in the memorable final scene of “Saltburn.”
