Lamar Jackson, the former NFL Most Valuable Player, and Baltimore Ravens quarterback posted on social media on Monday that he has asked to be traded from the team. He wrote that, despite the Ravens not showing interest in meeting his value, his “dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl.” After two years of negotiations, Baltimore applied the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson on March 7.
John Harbaugh stated on Monday at the NFL owners’ meeting in Phoenix that he was not informed of Jackson’s tweet. He then went on to express his eagerness to come to a resolution, saying he is “thinking about Lamar all the time” and “building our offense around that idea.” The Ravens have given Jackson the non-exclusive franchise tag, granting him the right to negotiate with other teams. Should Jackson sign an offer sheet with another franchise, the Ravens will have five days to either match the deal or receive two first-round picks in exchange. This tag carries a salary cap cost of $32.4 million for the 2023 season.
Harbaugh said it had been a while since he had last spoken to the quarterback, adding that it was a unique situation. He expressed his hope that they would get back together, noting it would be great. General Manager Eric DeCosta echoed Harbaugh’s wishes, noting their goal was to build a championship team with Lamar Jackson at the helm for years to come.
